Georgia Lee Brooks Laningham age 97 of Phenix City, Alabama, went to be with her Lord on December 31, 2020 at Columbus Hospice.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. David Wilson officiating.
Mrs. Laningham was born April 27, 1923 in Phenix City, Alabama. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was also a devoted friend to many as her Christian faith led her. She was preceded in death by her father, Reuben W. Brooks, mother, Annie Franklin Brooks, husband, Alvin Laningham, youngest son, Darryl T. Windsor, and daughter, Deidre Glovan.
She is survived by her two sons, Larry L. Windsor (Linda) of Phenix City, Alabama and Brent N. Roper (Connie) of Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Laningham was the sister of Gene Ray Brooks, Joyce Brooks McManous, and Gerald Brooks; eight grandchildren, Wendi Porretti , Jeremy Windsor, Brett Roper, Beau Roper, Brittany Roper, Bailey Roper, Michele Kren, and Sondra Glovan; eleven great grandchildren, Jordan Windsor, Jack Porretti, Daniel Porrretti, Nicholas Porretti, Scout Roper, Elliott Roper, Owen Roper, Devin Kren, Alex Glovan, Jared Glovan, and Sierra Glovan; and many cousins she dearly loved. Her special friends, Hattie Brooks, Georgena Neece, Ruthie Carpenter, Jodi Galarza, David Tyler, and Alice Hubbard; countless close friends from the churches she has served over her lifetime.
A Central High School graduate, as a young lady was Mr. Albert Patterson's secretary, became a European tour guide and traveled through the states and Mexico raising funds for the missions for the Congregational Methodist Church. She was a devoted supporter of missions work and missions families of the Congregational Methodist Church. She served on the board at John Wesley College in Florence, MS and was over the funding for all missions. Mrs. Laningham established the Phenix City Beautiful and was active in helping to make Phenix City a better place to live. She was involved with school programs and PALS. She was a very energetic and positive person and was always there for others. She loved reading her Bible and loving the Lord.
