Gary Reese Obituary

Gary Douglas Reese passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in Gresham, Oregon. Funeral services will be private.

He was the son of the late Lt. Colonel John Blanchard Reese and the late Annie Ruth Greer Reese. He was the grandson of the late Tulian Clements Reese and Dorothy Ethel McDaniel Reese, Charles Benton Greer and Annie Essie Martin Greer. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Jeffery Bryan Reese and John Timothy Reese and his nephew, Weston Douglas Mehaffey.

He is survived by his wife, YeVonne Marie Lewing Reese and his sister, Donna Gayle Reese Mehaffey.

Gary was a professional musician, playing all over the USA and Canada. Even though Gary had a gift, he spent many hours honing his God gifted talent. He took great pride in perfecting his music to the point when Gary played, it sounded as good or better than the original recording. Gary's gift enabled him to be proficient in all string instruments, keyboards and other instruments. He was in fact a very serious musician on and off the stage. Gary could make other musicians stand up and take note of his music skills. He was influenced in his music by Lynn Greene, John Prine, Zeke Turner, Arthur Smith, Hank Williams, Sr., Clarence White, Stanley Brothers, Bob Dylan and many others. Gary was a legend in his own time. He loved studying philosophy, math and art history. His knowledge of astronomy and astrophotography was astounding. He built his own telescope to study the stars and planets. He was an avid nature photographer and loved hiking, walking on the beach and bird watching. Above all he was a Bible scholar. He treasured his conversations with his wife, mom and sister regarding Biblical subjects. One of his last comments was, "I'm so excited! I get to meet the Christ."

Psalms 17:15

As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.
