Douglas Carter Obituary

Douglas Eugene Carter, known affectionately to family and friends as Doug, passed away on April 15, 2026, in Phenix City, Alabama, at the age of 71.

Doug was born on February 6, 1955, in Plant City, Florida, and he lived a life marked by hard work, humor, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures that made each day meaningful. He was a Christian by faith and was the kind of man who left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Doug built a respected career as the owner of Doug’s Foreign Car Service in Columbus, Georgia before retiring. Through his work, he earned the trust and appreciation of many people who came to rely on his skill, knowledge, and dedication.

Outside of work, Doug enjoyed a life filled with hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He loved fishing and enjoyed playing pool. He appreciated the friendly competition and good company that often came with it. Doug also had a gift for making people laugh. He loved to tell jokes, was known for being funny, and had a way of lifting the mood wherever he went. He also enjoyed tinkering with motorcycles and trikes, a pastime that suited his hands-on nature and curiosity. He was a collector of antiques and appreciated the stories and history that older things carried with them. Among his most faithful companions was his beloved dog, Lobo, who brought him comfort and companionship.

Doug is survived by his 'granddaughter', Aaron Page Adams, his cousins Betty Jo Weed (Alton),and Terry Eiland, his friends Floyd and Lelah Webb, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins, who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. Carter and Dorothy Eiland Reidling, and by his brother, Calvin Carter.

Those who knew Doug will remember his humor, his love of conversation, and the easy way he could make others laugh. A Private Service will be held to honor Doug's memory and life.
