Doris Wisner Barriga Obituary

Doris Ann Wisner Barriga, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, niece, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia. Doris was born on January 13, 1946, in Miami, Florida, and was the daughter of the late Robert Cameron Wisner and Wilma (Cobb) Calvina. She embodied the essence of kindness throughout her 79 years, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Doris's life was marked by devotion to her family and a passion for creativity. She was the beloved wife of Anthony S. Barriga, who preceded her in death. They shared a life full of love and companionship. Together, they were a source of strength and joy for their family. Doris's role as a mother was one she treasured deeply, nurturing her children with love and wisdom. She is survived by her three children, David Roberts (Stephanie), Suzanne Roberts Gillen, and  Jenni Terry (Scott).

She was a doting Memaw to four grandchildren, Dillon Roberts, Cayden Roberts, Zachary Gillen, and Sam Cagle. Doris also had the joy of being a great-grandmother to Finley and Adley. She was a sister to Merry Lee Herie (Roger), and an aunt to Bobby and Jimmy, sharing an unbreakable bond and countless memories with them all. Doris is also survived by the Cobb family matriarch, Betty June Boyer Collister, who adored her niece beyond measure.

Doris's professional life was marked by her meticulous skill as a bookkeeper. Her pride in her work was second only to the pride she felt for her husband's service as a veteran. She was an integral part of the community through her involvement in PVA fishing tournaments, where she formed lasting friendships and shared in the excitement of the sport.

Her interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. Doris was affectionately known as the "Best Memaw," and her love for traveling took her to the mountains and to visit her grandchildren, no matter the distance. Her creative spirit found joy in making wreaths, ornaments, and painting ceramics. Doris was also an avid reader, often found with a book in hand, transported to different worlds through the stories she loved. Family gatherings were the highlight of her year, where she would share her latest crafts and catch up on the lives of those she held dear.

Doris Ann Wisner Barriga's life was a tapestry of love, commitment, and creativity. The warmth of her presence will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will live on through the memories she leaves behind. A private service will be held to honor the remarkable woman she was, as we bid her a heartfelt farewell. Doris's life was a lesson in kindness, and she will be remembered for her gentle nature and her unwavering devotion to her loved ones. Her legacy is one of love, and it will continue to inspire and guide us all.
