Donald Robert "Don" Jones, aged 73, of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025. Born on September 10, 1951, in Lynchburg, Virginia, Don was a man whose life was characterized by his adventurous spirit, his kindness, and his deep faith. He was a true outdoorsman who found joy in the beauty of nature and the company of his loved ones.
Don is survived by his beloved spouse of 49 years, Vicky Jones of Phenix City, AL; his children, Donald Robert Jones Jr. (Emily Cole-Jones) of Richmond, VA, Jennifer Jones Patterson ("Bill") of Gloucester, VA, and Julie R. Jones of Nashville, TN. He was a cherished grandfather to Nathan Patterson, Caleb Renn, and Eleanor Patterson. A godfather to Dominic Walton and a special uncle to Steven Woolridge, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. His life was enriched by their love and the joy they brought him. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Nettie (Vest) Jones, his sister, Billie A. Woolridge, and his brother, Preston Jones.
After bravely serving in the United States Army, Don started his family in Virginia before relocating to Phenix City, Alabama. He retired from Columbus Carpet Mill after many successful years in flooring industry sales. His work not only provided for his family but also fostered lifelong friendships with coworkers and customers alike. Don's colleagues will remember him for his camaraderie and the many canoeing trips they shared.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Don's love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He was also a passionate collector of knives, each piece telling a story of his travels or a memory from his adventures. Those who knew Don would describe him as a gentleman in every sense of the word, a man who lived by his principles and treated everyone with respect.
Faith played a central role in Don's life, guiding him in his actions and relationships. He was a godly man who lived his beliefs and served as an example of compassion and integrity to his family and community.
Traveling was one of Don's greatest pleasures, which he often enjoyed with his wife Vicky. Together, they took trips across North America, creating lasting memories in every place they visited. The Gulf Coast held a special place in their hearts, and they frequented it numerous times each year, relishing in the tranquility and beauty of the seaside.
Don's legacy is not only one of love and family but also of the impact he had on those around him. He will be remembered as a kind and adventurous soul, a man who embraced life's journey with faith and courage.
A private family service will be held in Virginia where Don will be laid to rest. As his family and friends reflect on his life, they will find comfort in the memories of the times spent with him, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
