Dixie Monroe O'Neal  of Columbus, Georgia passed away Saturday, June 11, 2021 at the Branches Home for Veterans in Phenix City, Alabama. He was the Retired President of Radio Sales and Service.  Dixie was a member of the Assembly of God, a WWII Veteran of the Army Air Corp, and he loved electronics, Ham radios  and music.

Graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11:00am ET, at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama.

Dixie Monroe O'Neal was born in the coal mining community of Whitesburg, KY to William Allen O'Neal and Ruth Amy Crauswell O'Neal on April 28, 1927 according to his birth certificate. He grew up in Whitesburg until he was 6 years old and then spent the next 9 years in Cordova, Alabama with his mother and younger brother, William Edward O'Neal. He moved to Columbus, Georgia when he was 15 years old and began working at the age of 16. He married Doris Genell Hardy on March 16, 1944 and had two sons, Terry Allen O'Neal and Roger Kirby O'Neal. Dixie served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1944 to 1946.  Doris died in 1955 during surgery when their third child was stillborn. Dixie married the love of his life, Jewell Frances Taylor Elmore in March 1967. They spent the next almost 47 years happily in love with each other until Jewell died in 2014.  Dixie's failing health and more than 40 years of being blind forced him to seek a retirement community to live in. He lived at Covenant Woods in Columbus until the last several months of his life where he lived at Branches Home for Veterans in Phenix City, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amy and William O'Neal; wives, Doris Genell Hardy O'Neal and Jewell Frances Taylor O'Neal; 2 sons, Terry and Kirby O'Neal; and a brother, William Edward O'Neal.

Dixie died at the Branches Home for Veterans at 7:30pm on June 11, 2021.

He is survived by three nephews, Michael D. O'Neal (Jane) of Jacksonville, Florida, P. Gregory O'Neal (Pawnee) of Lynn Haven, Florida, and Wm. Chris O'Neal (Karen) of McDonough, Georgia; and many cousins. He was a very kind man and was loved by his family and friends.
