Dewey Harrison Obituary

It is with a profound sense of loss and enduring love that we announce the passing of Dewey Lee Harrison, affectionately known as Dewey, who left us on March 31, 2025. Born on October 3, 1936, in Russell County, Alabama, Dewey's journey through life was marked by an unwavering spirit of camaraderie and a warm, engaging personality that drew people to him.

Dewey proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, demonstrating early on the dedication and courage that would become hallmarks of his character. After his military service, he established a successful career, retiring from NAPA auto parts. His work ethic and leadership were also evident during his time as a manager at Shakey's pizza parlor in Columbus, where he was not only known for his managerial skills but also for entertaining customers with his piano playing, a testament to his love for music and joyous spirit.

Dewey's life was enriched by the love and support of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory Willie and Ruby Lee Harrison, and his dear son, Mark David Harrison. As the ninth of thirteen siblings, he was the last remaining light of his generation, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories. His family, including Brenda Bryant (Mike Greathouse), Sandra Golden (Randall), Carolyn Corley (John), Ann Hunt (Shawn), Gloria Sprayberry, Myra Tidwell, Cindy Bullard (Jeff), Donna Hunt (Dewayne), Lisa Bledsoe (Ken), Tammy Fowler, Kenny Harrison (Lori), Allen Harrison (Regina), and numerous nieces and nephews, will remember him as a beacon of friendship and love in their lives.

Dewey's zest for life extended beyond his family and career. He was a familiar face at Idlehour park, where he enjoyed his walks and the simple pleasure of socializing with friends and fellow walkers. His love for social interaction was also evident in his affinity for coffee and brunch, which were more than just a meal for Dewey; they were an opportunity to engage with friends and family in meaningful conversation and laughter.

Known for being exceptionally friendly, Dewey never met a stranger. His ability to connect with people and his genuine interest in their stories and well-being made him a beloved figure in his community. Dewey's presence was a comforting and joyful one, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to Dewey Lee Harrison, we are reminded of the indelible impact he had on our lives. His memory will continue to inspire us to cherish the relationships we have and to approach each day with kindness and a generous heart. Dewey's laughter, his love for life, and his unwavering friendship will be profoundly missed, but the legacy of his warm spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
