Deborah Lynn Welch, a loving mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Smiths Station community, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia. Born on August 12, 1953, in the same gracious town, Deborah's life was a testament to her unwavering kindness and the joy she brought to those around her.
Deborah was a proud graduate of Smiths Station High School, where she formed lifelong friendships and memories. Her passion for beauty and creativity led her to pursue further education at Columbus Tech Cosmetology program. Upon graduating, she channeled her talents into a successful career as the owner and operator of Deborah Cuts & Styles in Ladonia, where she not only styled hair but also nurtured a community of clients who became friends. She was also a member of Crawford Methodist Church, Deborah's faith was a cornerstone of her life.
Her artistic soul found expression in painting, with watercolors of the fall season being her favorite medium. Deborah also found solace and joy in the tranquil beauty of the Tennessee mountains, which she visited as often as she could. An avid reader, she delighted in the escapism of romance novels, often sharing her latest find with friends and family.
Deborah never missed an episode of her favorite show, "General Hospital," a testament to her dedication and love for "her shows." This small, daily ritual was a cherished part of her routine that her family fondly remembers.
She was a beacon of love and warmth to her family, who are left to cherish her memory. Deborah is survived by her two sons, Jason Welch (Michelle) and Derek Welch; her three grandchildren, Tyson Lee Welch, Landon Berry, and Will Berry; who all held a special place in her heart.
Her husband, Alfred Lee Welch, preceded her in death, as did her parents, Richard S. Laxton and Betty (Dixon) Engle, her stepfather Richard E. Engle, and her sister Jennifer Laxton. Their memories were held close to her heart, as she often shared stories of their lives and the love they shared.
Deborah's presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a loving figure who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those in her life. Her legacy is one of compassion, dedication, and a zest for life that will continue to inspire her family and friends.
A graveside service to celebrate Deborah's life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 am ET at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Pastor Mike Koger officiating, where loved ones will gather to honor her memory.
