Debbie Pope Lane, affectionately known as “Nana”, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, in Columbus, Georgia. Born on March 10, 1958, in Georgia, Debbie's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, dedication, and the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life.
Debbie's journey began as a bright-eyed girl in Georgia, where she grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and loving family. Her infectious laughter and kind spirit were a beacon of light that drew people to her. She met and married the love of her life, Phil Lane, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. She was blessed with two daughters, Julie Morgan and Rebecca Hall, who, along with their spouses Chris Hall, Sr., and their children, became the center of Debbie's world.
As a grandmother, Debbie's heart swelled with pride for her grandchildren: David Hall (Alena), Tiffany Hall, Chris Hall, Jr., Krista Hall (Kolby), Trake Morgan (Brooke), Angel Morgan, Siera Rosser, and Blair Rosser. She also cherished the moments with her great-grandchildren, Makenligh Rosser, Junior Rutkowski, and Michael Griffith. Debbie's family was the cornerstone of her life, and she nurtured each relationship with care and boundless love.
Debbie's life was also marked by the close bonds she shared with her brother, Roger Simpson, and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Ogin (Alan), Claira Carpenter (Allan), John Lane (Lisa), and Wayne Lane (Sam), along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Tommy Simpson, Edward Simpson, Mary Jane Kinter, Brenda Phillips, Christina Ray, Joyce Minix (Curtis), and her brother-in-law Deuwey Lane. She was also preceded by her granddaughter, Sativa Morgan and great-grandchild, Sprout. Debbie was the cherished daughter of the late James Simpson and Mary Holly. Her family will remember her as a pillar of strength and a source of unconditional love.
Beyond her family and work as a painter, Debbie was an ardent fan of Alabama football, a passion that brought her excitement and joy. Her interests, however, always circled back to her family, especially her grandchildren. Each brushstroke of her love painted a future for them filled with warmth and guidance. She devoted herself to their happiness and well-being, often going out of her way to support and encourage them in all their endeavors.
Debbie also had a special place in her heart for helping others, a trait that defined her as much as her love for her family. Her generosity and willingness to lend a hand were legendary among those who knew her. She was a true friend to many, including her close family friend, Ron, affectionately known as “Airborne”, who stood by them through thick and thin.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. ET at Highland Community Church in Columbus, GA with Pastor Rob Strickland officiating. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Highland Community Church in Columbus, GA, Rick and Debb Jordan and Family for all the love and support for Nana.
