David Raines Obituary

David Lee Raines, a cherished family man known for his humor and love of nature, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, in Opelika, AL. Born on July 18, 1964, in Columbus, GA. David loved his family, had passion for life's pleasures, and left a legacy of laughter that can’t help but reverberate.

David's early years in Columbus were filled with the warmth of a loving home, including his beautiful mother, Sally Ann Raines, and his late father, Thomas G. Raines. He grew up alongside his sisters, Mona Meroney and Kimberly Brown (Allan), and his late brother, Danny Raines. Bo Waters was like a brother to him too and remained a close family friend throughout the years. David's family expanded to include his own children, Brandy Sellers (Matthew Wood), Thomas N. Raines, and Dawn Michelle Raines, all of whom made him proud. His role as a grandfather to Levi Sellers, Lauren Sellers, Kayden Sellers, and Ailey Yawn was one he cherished deeply, relishing each moment spent with them.

David dedicated many years to working in the mills, where he was respected by his colleagues for his strong character and camaraderie. He knew how to work a crowd.

David's interests were rich and varied, like his personality. He loved hunting and found solace in the woods. He could often be found riding around on a four-wheeler, or searching for the next arrowhead. He collected guns and history, was fascinated with WWII memorabilia, and knew how to tell a good story.

David took pleasure in the little things like home cooked salmon patties and Gunsmoke. His love for Westerns will live on in his children. David's sense of humor was legendary; ever the jokester, he’d have anyone in a good mood in no time.  It’s just how he was, always in good spirits. His laughter was contagious, and he was the center of attention wherever he went.

David loved Alabama football, his enthusiasm for the game rating right up there with his love for old 4-wheel drive pickup trucks. These interests were more than hobbies; they were the pieces of the fabric that made up the man that so many admired and loved.

Above all, David was a family man. He loved being surrounded by his loved ones, sharing stories, or making them as he went along. These are the memories that live on. His unwavering support and unconditional love for his family were the cornerstones of his life. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

As David always said, “Luck to ya!”
