Dagmar (Heidenthal) Trawick, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in Salem, Alabama, at the age of 78. Born on December 11, 1946, in Frankfurt, Germany, Dagmar's journey brought her to the United States at the tender age of nine, where she would go on to lead a life marked by dedication to her family, her work, and her community.
A memorial service to celebrate Dagmar's life will be held on Saturday, May 24th, 2025, at 11:00 AM ET at Colonial Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Brother Ross Corbin, who will honor Dagmar's life and the impact she had on those around her.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Darrell Trawick (Tawana) and Amanda Trawick; her adored grandchildren, Ashley Coleman (Tony), Darrell Trawick II, Ashley Trawick, and Auburn Trawick; as well as five great-grandchildren. Dagmar also leaves behind her brother, Ricky Heidenthal (Annette), brother-in-law, Roger Trawick and sisters-in-laws, Barbara Ann Foster, and Dorothy Baker, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, James "Rayford" Trawick, her son, James Trawick, and her parents, Frances and Eursula (Weszel) Heidenthal.
Dagmar's life was characterized by her selfless service to others, as evidenced by her 25 years of dedication to the Smith Station School District. There, she touched many lives as a substitute teacher and bus driver, leaving a legacy of kindness, patience, and some sternness. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering; she was a devoted member of Word of Faith Baptist Church and previously, Faith Temple Assembly of God, where she formed lasting friendships and served her community with grace and love.
Her zest for life was evident in her hobbies and interests. Dagmar relished the freedom of motorcycle rides through the mountains and cherished the simplicity of camping trips. She took immense pride in her home, tending to her landscaping and consistently preferring her trusty old Snapper mower over any newer model. Her mornings were often spent in the company of her lady friends at McDonald's, a testament to her love for social connection and camaraderie. Dagmar's loyal German Shepherd, Lucky, was a constant companion, embodying the warmth and loyalty that she herself exuded. Her presence in the lives of those who knew her was a source of joy and comfort, and her memory will be treasured forever.
Dagmar (Heidenthal) Trawick's passage from this life leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her spirit—an embodiment of love, dedication, and joy—will continue to inspire and guide us. As we gather to remember her, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a legacy that will shine on through the generations.
