Charmin "NaNa" Starling

Charmin "NaNa" Starling, a beacon of love and warmth in the lives of all who knew her, passed away on March 14, 2026, in her hometown of Phenix City, Alabama. Born on March 12, 1958, to the late Zeke Starnes and Margaret Loretta Starnes, Charmin's life was a testament to the power of kindness, family, and joyous celebration.

Charmin's heart was forever intertwined with that of her beloved husband, the late Robert Rodney Starling and her children, Christopher Jones (Kim) and Alexis Margaret Starling, both of Phenix City, AL. Her spirit will live on through her adoring grandchildren, Madison Jones (Mike), Cameron Jones (Hannah), and Nick Richard (Brandy), and her great-grandchildren, Louie Richard, Trey Jones, and Georgia Jones.

She was a cherished sister to Ronnie Starnes (Jane) and Charlotte Miller (Bo), who will hold her memory dear as a guiding star in their lives. Charmin was a friend to many.  Her friend Dale Sides, who, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, will miss her dearly. She now joins her parents, her spouse, Robert, her great-grandchild, Lola Richards, and her best friend, Carol Johnson, in eternal rest.

Charmin's passions were as vibrant as her personality. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life - the art of cake baking for weddings, the satisfaction of a well-tended garden, and the comfort of cooking meals that brought people together. Her famous fried green tomatoes were more than a dish; they were an expression of her love and a favorite among friends and family. Charmin treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren, imparting wisdom and laughter in equal measure.

Known affectionately as "NaNa" by all, Charmin embodied the essence of this endearing nickname. It was more than just a name; it was a reflection of how she treated others - with nurturing care, boundless generosity, and an open heart. Her home was a sanctuary where all were welcome, and her presence was a source of comfort and joy.

As we bid farewell to Charmin "NaNa" Starling, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and passion. Her legacy of love, family, and friendship will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Charmin's memory will be carried forward in the stories shared at family gatherings, the recipes passed down through generations, and the countless lives she touched with her grace and kindness.
