Charles Edward Austin Obituary

Charles Edward Austin, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024, in his hometown of Columbus, GA, where he first saw the world on January 23, 1945. His life, a tapestry of love, hard work, and joyful moments, was a testament to the kind man he was, touching the lives of many with his gentle spirit and generous heart.

Charles's journey began as one of many siblings, a childhood filled with the simple pleasures of wrestling, savoring chicken dinners, and singing gospel music with family. These formative years instilled in him the values of family, faith, and the joy of life's every moment. As he grew, so did his love for the outdoors, with fishing and hunting becoming pastimes that brought him peace and contentment.

A dedicated worker, Charles rendered 23 years of faithful service to Uniroyal Tire, where his commitment and camaraderie with colleagues were as steadfast as his reliability. His retirement was a time of well-earned relaxation and enjoyment, with his favorite activities often shared with loved ones. He found excitement in the thrills of the casino, often accompanied by his sister-in-law, Julia Pinner, where laughter and luck intertwined.

Wrestling was not just a childhood game for Charles but a lifelong enthusiasm. He delighted in watching the sport, perhaps reminiscing about playful tussles of days gone by, and the joy it brought to his younger years. This simple pleasure was a thread that ran through his life, connecting the past with the present.

Charles's legacy is carried on by his beloved spouse, Marilyn Austin, who stood by him through life's many chapters. His love for his grandchild, Heather Deignan (married to Nicholas), and his three great-grandchildren, Audrey Marie, Lorelai Kathleen, and Waylon Lamar, will always be cherished. His memory will also be treasured by his three siblings, Tammy Griggs (Gary), Lucy Burkett, and Randy Austin, who shared in the laughter and love of their family's bond.

Though preceded in death by his sons, Charles Germaine and Kayse Edward Austin, his parents, Alex and Desire (Stinson) Austin, and his nine siblings, Larry, Dexter, Ralph, Barbara Ann, Sara Ann, Vicky Lynn, Wyman, Margie, and Patricia Ann, Charles's spirit remains a guiding light for his family. His cousin, along with numerous nieces and nephews, will remember him for his kindness and the warmth he brought to every family gathering.

Charles's life was one of simplicity, joy, and kindness. He navigated the world with a gentle demeanor and a generous heart, always ready to lend a hand or share a moment of companionship. His absence will be deeply felt, but his influence will continue to live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
