Carlos "Carl" Dale Perkins Sr, age 84, of Sophia, West Virginia, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 30, 2025 after a short illness.
He was born February 23, 1941 in Whitby, West Virginia, a son of Cleatus Shumate and Thelma Perkins. Carlos married the love of his life, Lucille "Lucy" Lynn Duncan and they spent 8 wonderful years together before his passing.
After graduating high school, Carlos enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Special Services Division and retired after 24 years of honorable service.
Carlos loved his family deeply. He was a devoted family man and spent all the time with them that he could. Carlos especially loved the time that he spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They built many lasting memories together.
He spent a lot of time traveling. Carlos was friendly to everyone he met and didn't know a stranger. In his travels, he made time for many flea markets. Carlos enjoyed the unique things he would get when going to the flea markets.
Carlos was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie June Perkins; parents, Cleatus Shumate and Thelma Blevins; and siblings, Roger Blevins and Paul Blevins.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Lynn Perkins; children, Lynn Perkins, Laura (Randy) Shuffield, Carlos (Summer) Perkins Jr, Jaime (Michael) Wykle, and Russel (Jessica) Potter; grandchildren, Andrew Perkins, Brittney (Shannon) Holt, Wesley Shuffield, Jason Shuffield, and Makenzley Potter; great-grandchildren, Jackson Perkins, Harper Holt, and Hazel Holt; siblings, Sherri (Skip) Faust, Michael (Linda) Blevins, Ronnie (Sharon) Blevins, Arthur "Butch" Blevins, and Helen Stone; and family members, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 8th, 2025, beginning at 12:00 PM at Melton Mortuary. The Funeral Ceremony honoring Carlos will begin at, 1:00 PM with Pastor Davey Duncan officiating. A Graveside Service will follow the Burial at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Alabama. The Graveside Service will be Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 1:30 pm est.
