Carey Allen Hobbs Sr., a cherished soul, departed this life on August 13, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on November 7, 1946, in Pensacola, Florida, he was a beacon of strength and love throughout his life. Carey passed away peacefully in Upatoi, Georgia, surrounded by the warmth of his family's love.
Carey was the beloved son of Little Leonard Hobbs and Nora Enfinger Hobbs. His life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and community service. Carey found his life's companion in Cora Lee Hobbs, with whom he built a legacy of love and commitment that would stand the test of time.
A man of integrity and dedication, Carey worked as a foreman at Acousti of Columbus, where his leadership and work ethic left a lasting impact. He was an active member of both the New Life Baptist Church and the Carpenter's Union, where he formed enduring friendships.
Outside of work, Carey enjoyed the companionship of his pet dogs, Gabriel and Casey, who were a source of joy and comfort in his daily life. His interests and hobbies were as varied as they were enriching, but it was his role as a family man that brought him the most fulfillment.
Carey is lovingly remembered by his two children, Kari Watson (Larry) and Carey Allen Hobbs Jr. (Kerry), who will forever cherish his memory. He was a doting grandfather to five grandchildren: Callie Swingen (William), Aryel McCormick, Kevin Hobbs, Tyler Meadows, and Robert Duncan. His legacy will also live on through his adoring sister, Cherry Catrett and five great-grandchildren.
His departure was preceded by his treasured wife, Cora Lee Hobbs, his daughter Kim Hobbs, his parents, and his brothers, David, James, and Preston Hobbs.
Those who knew Carey would describe him as loving—a word that barely scratches the surface of the compassion and warmth he extended to everyone. His ability to love without limits was his greatest gift to the world.
A Memorial Service in Carey's honor will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the New Life Baptist Church. This gathering will celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come. The family ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to any Children's Organization.
