Augustus "Gus" Griswold, Jr.

Augustus “Gus” Griswold, Jr., 85, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Phenix City, Alabama. A viewing will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET at Colonial Funeral Home in Phenix City, Alabama.

Gus was born May 5, 1938 to the late, Augustus Griswold, Sr., and Easter Dyess in Coffee County, Alabama. He retired from the United States Marine Corp after 20 years of service. He served two tours in Vietnam and was stationed all over the world. Gus went on to work as a manager at Burger King for over ten years and went into business with a partner at ACI chemicals before going on to work in security at Moon Lake in Phenix City, Alabama. He was a proud Marine, who loved to travel in his ’99 Dodge Ram “Betsy”. He loved to joke and pick on his children and grandchildren. Gus loved sweets and always had a sweet tooth for chocolate. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Gilbreath. 

Surviving are his children, Marie Lindley (Jim), Felecia Belflower, Kathy Clark (Charles), Jeff Griswold (Sherry), Heather Matsuda (Ty), and Ashley Griswold; his grandchildren are Joseph, Josh, Jonathan, Ashley, Brandon, Jeffrey, Jessie, Jacob, Seth and Keira. He has several great grandchildren and one on the way.
