Alton "Al" Lamar Wynn

Alton "Al" Wynn, 82, passed away peacefully under the care of Columbus Hospice at the home of his friend, Benny Holland, following a brief illness.
Mr. Wynn was born September 24, 1942, in Columbus, Georgia and lived in the Crawford community until about age 8. A lifelong resident of Russell County, Alabama, Mr. Wynn was preceded in death by his loving parents, Edgar Iby Wynn and Pauline Prather Wynn, also, his wife, Effie Herring Wynn who preceded him in death just one year ago.
Surviving Mr. Wynn is his daughter, Janet Anthony Lovett, and loving sister, Patricia Wynn Phillips, his nephews; Roland Scott (Janet) Tindell, Jason Edgar (Jennifer) Tindell and a number of special cousins, great nieces and nephews, and special friends.
Mr. Wynn was a 1960 graduate of Central High School and attended CVCC. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. Following his service in the military, he enjoyed a long career with Norfolk Southern Railroad until his retirement.
Mr. Wynn was a devoted Alabama football fan and shared a love of cars with his father who taught him automotive skills. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his friends and traveling. His outgoing personality endeared him to his many friends, and he will be missed by all who loved him.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Colonial Funeral Home from 9:00 am till 10:30 am.; followed by a graveside service with military honors at 11:00 am from Parkhill Cemetery.
