Mr. Gene Thompson, age 84 of Phenix City, Alabama was called home on Monday, March 26, 2018. Born February 12, 1934, in Opp, Alabama, he was the son of the late Willie Gaston and Willie Shirley Thompson. Gene worked in Manufacturing Companies from 1950 through 1985 in Opp, Alabama and Columbus, Georgia. He owned and operated Thompson Grocery until he retired in 1996. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Genese Gatlin and his brother Tommie Thompson. He is survived by his wife: Elaine Thompson, his children Gary Thompson (Brenda), Pat Hutto (Neil), Eugenia Thompson, Dena Cole (Robert), Gina Hester (Jon) and 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Frances Prater, Estelle Ward, Shirley Ellison, Voncile Tidwell, and Joan Gwynne.
He was loved by all who knew him and known for his strength, sweet spirit, smiling blue eyes and his contagious sense of humor.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, 2:00 pm EST on March 29, 2018 at Colonial Funeral Home in Phenix City with Jon Hester officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Amos Cancer Center, Nutritionist Beth Bussey and the entire staff of Radiology and Oncology for the kindness and care given during Gene’s treatments.
