Mary Ida Brown Holman

Mary Ida Brown Holman was born June 12, 1921 in Opelika, AL and came to Columbus at the age of two. She attended school at 16th Street School, St. Elmo, and Columbus High School. She attended two years at Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA. Mary Ida was the daughter of Walter A. Brown, and Minella Hamilton Brown, and was married for 59 years to James Leon Holman.

A member of St. Luke UMC since the age of 2 ½, she was a charter member of the Shaw Sunday School Class, a member of Circle 4 UMW, a past member of the Columbus Museum, the Historic Columbus Foundation, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, and the Mr. and Mrs. Dance Club.

The funeral will be held at St Luke UMC at 2pm, with the Reverend Robert Beckum and the Reverend John Fugh officiating. Visitation will be held at St. Luke an hour prior to the service. Interment at Riverdale Cemetery following the service.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband. Survivors are daughter Celia Evans; son James Leon (Jimmy) Holman, Jr (Beth); and daughter Nancy Jordan (Ken Sherman). Grandchildren Julie Minkanic (James Forsythe); Mary Minkanic; John Evans; Marianne Jordan; Neal Jordan (Jordann); Zach Bovaird (Lacey); Emily Carpenter (Jesse); Blake Bovaird; James L (Lee) Holman, III. Great granddaughter Krystal Rice (Tyler); great grandson, Tanner Carpenter; and great-great grandson, James Rice. Niece Brenda Price (Allen). Nephew Lawrence Williams (Aracelis); several great nieces and nephews; and special caregivers Mary Jackson, Katrina Spivey, and Phyllis Spivey.
