Joseph Otha Scrimpshire, Jr., 80, Phenix City, Alabama, died Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Gentiva Hospice, Columbus, GA after a brief illness.  Graveside Service:  Wednesday, May 24, 2017, 10:00 AM EDT, at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Bud Rupel, Associate Pastor Evangel Temple officiating.

Mr. Scrimpshire was born June 25, 1936 in Columbus, Georgia the first born son of Joseph Otha Scrimpshire Sr. and Vera May Calhoun Scrimpshire.

He was a Christian by faith.  He served his country in The United States Navy.  He retired from Burnham Trucking Company.  He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially baseball and football.  He also worked after retirement in Security.  He was affectionately known to his grand children, great-grand children, and extended family and friends as Papa Joe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry Lamar Scrimpshire, brother-in-law SSG Larry Beebe, and nephew Jeffrey Lamar Scrimpshire.

Survivors include his children Wanda Waters (Leon), Phenix City, AL,  Rhonda Joann Mizelle, Myrtle Beach, SC, Donna Duvall (Michael), Columbus, GA, Randy Scrimpshire (Melodie), Cataula, GA,  Lanell Rushing (Steven), Cleveland, TX. 

Sisters Janice Beebe (Larry), Columbus, GA, Linda Cannon (Gene), Savannah, GA, Sister-in-Law Diane Scrimpshire, Columbus, GA.

Grand-children Jonathan Welch (Amanda Phillips), Joshua Welch, Heather Rabon (Ronnie), Lindsey Masters (Justin), Whitney Turner, Ashleigh Martin (Cassidy Shives), Cody Scrimpshire (Heather), Chad Scrimpshire, Blake Bivens (Katelyn), Brad Allen, Celieste Parker, Christopher Parker,  Deserie Rushing,  and Connor Rushing.

Great-grand-children Alexis Rabon, Johnathan Rabon, Caleb Rabon, Brianna Masters, Alexa Hart, Morgan Masters, Karlie Hart, Camron Hart, Colin Scrimpshire, Nolan Smith, Peyton Smith, Gavin Oswalt and Gunner Oswalt.
