Elsie Joann Carter, 83, of Salem, Alabama passed away Saturday morning at her home.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 10,2017 at 11:00 AM est at Crawford Cemetery with Pastor Orville Whitaker officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carter was born December 24, 1933 in Rockingham county, North Carolina to the late William Jiley Walker and Martha Virginia Gunn Walker. She retired from Southern Phenix Mills and was employed in the textile industry for more than 49 years. She was a child of God, enjoyed coloring, puzzles, and her pets. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Douglass Bartlett and husband, Harold D. Carter.

Surviving are her daughters, Virginia Irvine, and Felicia (Curtis) Denham, both of Salem, Alabama, sons, Harold (Reba) Carter, Jr. of Salem, Alabama, Roger Lee (Diane) Carter of Crawford, Alabama, and Darrell Carter of Phenix City, Alabama. 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.

Immediately following the service, lunch will be served at the home of Felicia Denham , 76 Lee Road 2056, Salem, Alabama.
