Alice Leola Ruth, 85, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017, after a battle with cancer. She loved her family, her friends, her church and above all, she loved the Lord with all her heart, all her soul and all her mind. She counted each day as a blessing from God and shared the Gospel with many throughout her life.  

Born in Phenix City, Alabama, on June 16, 1932, Alice was the daughter of Richard Floyd and Myrtle Hall Tillery. She married Fred “Billy” Ruth and had two sons, Richard and David. She was a kind-hearted and loving mother.  

Although she worked hard during her early years, her later years were dedicated to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She would sing Gospel hymns and Bible songs to every one of them, and taught them about the Heaven she was going to one day. Always a wise woman, she built her house on the rock. 

She was beloved by Brother Wayne Scarborough and many others at Auburn Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member for more than five decades. She did not hide her light under a bushel, but let it shine for all the world to see.  

Alice was preceded in death by her parents and many siblings; her husband, Billy; and her son, David. She is survived by her brother Preston “Winker” Tillery; son, Richard, and daughter-in-law, Suzy; friend and neighbor, Janice McCall; grandchildren Susan, Sharon, Dana, Haley, Erin and Lindsay; great-grandchildren Tia, Kelsie, Kirsten, Allyssia, Hunter, Justin, Cole, Adrianna, Cayla, Ellie, Lily and Alice; and six great-great grandchildren. 

Alice was well-loved, and was surrounded by family and friends in the days preceding her death. Some of her last words were, “I’m ready to go, Lord.” The angels of heaven are rejoicing, and we will walk the streets of Glory with her again one day.  

Visitation to honor her life will be held at 10 a.m. EST, Saturday, November 25, at Auburn Heights Baptist Church, 4207 Auburn Road, Phenix City, with the funeral immediately following at 11 a.m. EST.
